EATALY Opens Tomorrow 8/31 in NYC!

After much anticipation, the italian culinary mecca, Eataly, will open their doors tomorrow at 4pm. If you've lived in a hole for the last year and need to be brought up to speed, this will be the premier destination in NYC for all things Italian, featuring an enormous prepared food section, an extensive grocery section, a fish monger, a cheese monger, a butcher, italian-style pizzerias, a cooking school, bookstore, gelateria, bakery and last but certainly NOT least, a rooftop restaurant and BREWPUB complete with its own copper-clad brewing system! Unfortunately you'll have to wait a little longer as the brewpub is not expected to open until later this fall. Wahhh

Collaborating on the brewpub project is Sam Calagione of Dogfish Head, Vinnie Cilurzo of Russian River Brewing, and two Italian brewmasters, Leonardo Di Vincenzo from Birra del Borgo and Teo Musso of Birrificio le Baladin. (We are proud to have 3 out of 4 of these breweries in our portfolio!! If only everyone would tell Vinnie how cool we are.) These four beer superstars will be working together to create artisanal, old-world Italian craft beers with both Italian and American ingredients. To make it even more superb and authentic, these house beers will be poured off of traditional beer engines and will be unfiltered and unpasteurized. And the fun doesn't stop there. You will also be able to enjoy your magnificently crafted beers with a view of Manhattan and a side dish of something yummy created by the rustic-Italian master himself, Mario Batali.

Tuppers is back in New Jersey!

PHILLIPSBURG, NJ, August 23, 2010 - After nearly a six year hiatus from the New Jersey market, Tuppers’ world-class beers have made their way back to store shelves. Their distributor, Hunterdon Brewing Company, is proud to represent the brand once again.


Bob Tupper, who founded the brand in 1994 with his wife Ellie, states, “We’re delighted to be back in New Jersey and specifically with Hunterdon. We fell into this business by tasting and taking notes on every beer we could find. We’ve continued to search for great beers and New Jersey has some of the best beer stores anywhere.”


Their passion for good beer started in the late 1970’s and has taken them around the world visiting hundreds of breweries and critiquing over 19,500 beers to date. “We brew beers that we can’t find elsewhere – and we look pretty hard. Our beers combine labor intensive old-world brewing techniques with costly ingredients in ways that our business manager wouldn’t allow…if we had one. Most good craft brewed ales take a week or two to make; ours takes nearly a month and a half,” Bob proudly states.


The attention to detail has paid off. In 2002, Tuppers’ Hop Pocket Pils, now known as Keller Pils, topped beer expert Michael Jackson’s “America’s Ten Best Beers” list that appeared in American Heritage Magazine. He further stated that the pils could be considered “Among the finest results of the American brewing tradition”. In addition to the media accolades, both beers have brought home gold medals from the Great American Beer Festival held annually in Denver, Colorado.


Tuppers’ beers are re-emerging during an incredible growth period for craft beer in the state. Hunterdon carries some of the biggest names in American craft beer and has created a huge following with their products. There is no doubt that the Tuppers’ brand will be well-received by new and old fans alike.


“Tuppers’ Hop Pocket Ale was always one of my favorites and we’re very happy to have it back in our portfolio. I’m sure the beer lovers of New Jersey will agree that the ale and pilsner are world-class beers,” says Dave Masterson, co-owner of Hunterdon Brewing Company.


Bob and Ellie Tupper live in Bethesda, Maryland where he is a high-school science teacher and she is the senior production editor for the American Society of Microbiology. Half of the profits from their beer sales go directly to helping charities within the metropolitan DC area.

Spotlight on Ipswich Oatmeal Stout



Well, it sure does feel like fall has arrived. Or at least we can pretend it has. After the scorching hot summer we had, the cool temperatures and dampness in the air are a nice change of pace.  What better way to celebrate this sneak preview of fall, then to run out and grab some of the delicious fall seasonals that are now available. While you are stocking your cart full of Imperial Pumpkin Ales and Oktoberfest Marzens, be sure not to overlook one of the other great offerings of the season, the Oatmeal Stout. One in particular that we just released is the ever-so-yummy Ipswich Oatmeal Stout. With its rich notes of chocolate, coffee and roasted malt, this stout is robust, yet smooth and creamy at the same time. Ipswich crafts this ale using three different hop additions, specially selected crystal malts, roasted barely and oatmeal to give it a soft and silky mouth feel. Whatever they do, it works.

On ratebeer.com, it is has received a whopping 96 out of 100 points, and Beer Advocate puts it in the 'Outstanding' category with a 'A' rating. Jason Alstrom, one of the Beer Advocate brothers, said, "This is one stout I can't get enough of, one of the most drinkable, full-bodied ales I have run into in a long time. A treat for any die hard stout fan especially if you enjoy oatmeal stouts."

Ipswich Brewery was founded in 1991, but it wasn't until four years later that the Oatmeal Stout rolled off the bottling line. Other offerings from the brewery include their Original Ale, Dark Ale, India Pale Ale and a variety of seasonal and limited releases. Coming up next: Ipswich Winter Ale!

Abita's 'Save Our Shores' charitable beer now for sale in New Jersey

After the disastrous oil spill in the Gulf, Abita teamed up with Louisiana fundraising committees to raise money for the relief and rescue effort, by creating 'SOS' - a unfiltered Weizen Pilsner - that would generate 75 cents for every bottle sold. After following the news on this special project for the last month, we are happy to finally have the beer in our warehouse so we can start getting this great "message in a bottle" out to you.

A good beer for a good cause...this special release sold in 22oz bottles will not stay on the shelves long, so go out and get yourself some this weekend and you will be happy you did.
